acceptable use policy

last updated 8 august 2026

The short version

Do not harm other people, do not deceive them, and do not attack the service. That is the whole policy. The rest of this page names the harms we act on, so that nobody has to guess.

illi is invite-only, and we would rather deal with people than with rules. A person, not an automated system, makes the final call on removing someone's access.

What this policy covers

This policy applies to getilli.com and to the illi beta, and to anything you submit, send, or display through either. It is set by illi, inc. ("illi", "we", "us"), it expands the acceptable use section of our terms of service, and it forms part of those terms.

illi is not yet generally available. When it is, separate rules will govern the app, and you will be able to read them before you use it.

The rules below are written broadly on purpose. A rule that still reads correctly in a year is worth more than a list of specific tricks.

Almost everything here is about what you do on illi. If something you do elsewhere gives us good reason to believe you are a danger to people here, we may act on that too.

Who can be here

You must be at least 16 years old. Do not hold an account on behalf of someone younger, and do not help anyone under 16 get access. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16, we remove it.

What is not allowed

These are the things we act on. They apply to anything you submit, send, display, or link to.

Children

This is the one rule with no judgement attached. We have zero tolerance for anything that sexualises or endangers a child. Never:

We remove the content, remove the account permanently, and report it to law enforcement and to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Where the law requires us to keep records of a report, we keep them for as long as it requires and no longer. There is no warning and no second chance.

Harassment, hate, and violence

Disagreeing with a person is fine. Targeting one is not. Do not:

Sexual content

illi is not for sexual content. Do not:

Suicide and self-harm

Do not encourage anyone to hurt themselves, and do not share methods, instructions, or challenges that push people towards it. The same goes for content that promotes disordered eating.

Saying that you are struggling is not a breach of this policy, and you will not lose your account for it. If we believe someone may be at risk we may write to them with sources of help, and if we believe a life is in danger we may contact emergency services.

Other people's information

What you learn about someone through illi belongs to them, not to you. Do not:

Consent to one thing is not consent to everything. When you are unsure, ask the person first.

Honesty and impersonation

illi only works if people are broadly who they say they are. Do not:

Choosing how much of yourself to show is your business. Deception is a different thing, and it is the thing we act on.

Fraud, scams, and illegal trade

Do not use illi to break the law, or to help anyone else break it. That includes:

Laws differ from country to country. You are responsible for the law where you are.

Spam and automation

Do not:

Security and the integrity of the service

Do not:

If you come across a security flaw, tell us at contact@getilli.com before you tell anyone else. This is not an invitation to go looking, and the rule above still stands. We will not pursue anyone who reports a genuine problem in good faith, does not exploit it, does not touch other people's information, and gives us a fair chance to fix it.

Content and rights

Only submit content you have the right to submit, and do not use another person's work, name, or trade mark without their permission. The illi name, logo, website, and software are ours, and our terms of service set out what you may do with them.

The beta stays confidential

If we have given you beta access, the beta is confidential. Do not publish screenshots, recordings, or descriptions of it, do not write about its features publicly, and do not pass your access to anyone else, until we announce the app publicly or tell you otherwise. Our terms of service already say this. It is repeated here because it is the rule people forget.

What we do not do

If you break these rules

What we do depends on what happened, how serious it was, whether it looks deliberate, and whether it has happened before. We may remove the content, tell you to stop, limit what your account can do, suspend your access while we look into it, or remove your access permanently.

When we act on your account, we tell you what we did and why. The only exceptions are where the law stops us, or where telling you would put someone at risk.

Some things skip every step in between. Anything in the children section above, a credible threat to someone's safety, or a deliberate attempt to defraud people ends in permanent removal the first time.

A person makes the final decision to remove someone's access. A human being here reviews the situation, weighs intent and context, and decides. We take responsibility for the call.

Coming back after we have removed your access is itself a breach of this policy, and so is helping someone else do it. Where the law requires it, or where someone is in danger, we may pass information to law enforcement.

The lists above are examples, not the outer edge of what we will act on. If something is plainly against the spirit of this policy, we can act on it even where no line here describes it exactly.

Reporting something

Write to contact@getilli.com. A person reads it. Tell us what happened, who was involved, and roughly when, and include anything that helps us understand it.

We read every report. We aim to deal with reports of harmful content within 24 hours, and faster where someone's safety is at stake. If you have not heard back in a few days, write again and say so.

If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. They can act faster than we can.

We do not tell the person you reported who reported them, unless the law obliges us to. Reporting someone in bad faith, to get them removed or to pressure them, is itself a breach of this policy.

If we get it wrong

We will, at some point. Write to contact@getilli.com and tell us why, and a person will look at the decision again. We do not run a formal appeals process and we cannot promise you a particular outcome, but we will read what you send, and we would rather correct a mistake than defend one.

Changes to this policy

illi is early, and this policy will grow as the service does. When we change something material, we update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use illi after that means you accept the version you find here.
